What is horned turtles?

Horned turtles, also known as eastern long-necked turtles, are small to medium-sized turtles found in Australia. They have a distinctive pointy snout and a "horn" on top of their head, which gives them their name.

These turtles are semi-aquatic and can be found in a variety of habitats such as rivers, creeks, ponds, and swamps. They are active during the day and feed mainly on small aquatic invertebrates such as insects and crustaceans.

Horned turtles are a popular species of pet, however, it is important to note that they require specific conditions to thrive in captivity and should not be released into the wild if they have been kept as pets.

These turtles are an important part of the ecosystem and play a role in maintaining the balance of their habitats. However, their populations are threatened by habitat loss and degradation, introduced predators, and illegal poaching for the pet trade. Conservation efforts are being made to protect these turtles and their habitats.
